This week we welcomed police work horse Barney. He is a stunning Percheron cross, big and beautiful with a lot of power and grace.
Barney sustained an injury to his knee cup while playing around in turnout and will have to be stall bound for many weeks to come in order to see if healing can happen for him.
His work mates, police officers from his Rhode Island Mounted Unit, brought him to us and stayed while he settled in and they loved getting to see firsthand what a retirement (or semi retirement) for working horses with nowhere to go looks like!
Barney is, for sure, to be a big hit on the farm along with the many others just like him, horses needing a safe space to just be....what they already are...miracles in motion.
