TOMMY PINBALL WIZARD aka TOMMY or THOMAS
Tommy, 8yrs old gelding, 19.3 hhs, reg Shire, good health
Tommy helps tell the story of our shared story with the biggest working breeds and most importantly his own very endangered kind. Shires are now rarer than the Giant Panda and the Snow Leopard, both of those populations are slowly rebounding due to worldwide concern and attention. Shouldn’t Tommy and his kind merit the same care and concern. By offering them jobs, sharing the skills to care for and drive them and creating opportunities for new environmentally sensitive jobs on the roads, farms, and forests!
This isn’t the first time in history that the Shires have faced a certain doomed future. Shire horses come from stock used to carry knights into battle, they were King Henry Vlll war horses. They were later adapted for farm work and hauling heavy loads over rough terrain–and to this day, some Shires are used in the forestry industry where mechanized vehicles cannot go. The breed nearly went extinct in the 1950s and ’60s, but today they are more popular than they have been in decades despite their small numbers.
